An Olympic NetWorker

By Scott Manthorne, Sports Editor             Scott's Bio

Take the art of networking, combine it with one of Winter Olympics most dangerous competitions, and you have Ruben Gonzalez.  A three-time Olympian in the sport of luge, Ruben is one of the most exceptional business networkers you will ever meet.

Ever since he can remember, Ruben had a dream to compete in the Olympic Games.  “I respected the Olympians because they were an example of all I believed in – they were willing to commit to a goal, willing to risk in pursuit of it, willing to fail and to keep on trying until they succeeded.”

Not a gifted athlete, Ruben did not take up the sport of luge until he was 21.  Against all odds, four years later he was competing in the Winter Olympics.  At the age of 39, he was racing against 20-year olds in the Salt Lake City Olympics.  As the Games kicked off, Ruben was selected to be one of only 200 Olympic Torchbearers!

Ruben’s passion is equally transferred to the business world.  He is a tireless networker, and is always looking for opportunities to help others connect.  Among his many accomplishments, here are some notable ones:

-          Author of seven books, including “Courage to Succeed”

-          Accomplished Motivation speaker & trainer (www.thelugeman.com)

-          National columnist with his “Go for the Gold” column

-          Frequent radio & TV guest, as well as being featured in Time Magazine

So if you ever get the chance to meet with (or speak to) Ruben, prepare yourself for a “fast-paced” experience that will certainly lead to new opportunities.  And, if you wish to learn more about Ruben now, visit his blog at www.olympicmotivationalblog.com.
