Ready, Set, Go Make Money!By Glen Gould, Southeast Bureau Chief Glen's Bio
Anyone who meets Wendy Kinney (www.Powercore.net) will soon hear this admonition. With an infectious personality, a playful laugh, and her trademark hat, Wendy encourages small business professionals to get ready, set and go make money. But don’t be fooled by her happy go lucky attitude – Wendy Kinney and Powercore have the goods and mean business. Over the past decade, Powercore has grown in Atlanta to boast 775 members in 47 teams. Wendy’s involvement began in the early 1990’s when she attended her first meeting in Melbourne, Florida. Perhaps the best proof of Powercore’s effectiveness is Wendy herself. A self-proclaimed introvert who "drove to meetings but didn’t have the guts to go in", Wendy forced herself to break out of her shell and become a powerful networking professional. Powercore provided the system for this shy lady to build a multi-state enterprise. That first meeting was an eye opener. As she listened to the speaker that morning (a CPA), she wondered why her CPA hadn’t told her a lot of what she was hearing. "I realized I needed to be with people at this level" recalls Wendy. Eighteen months later she had formed 22 teams in the Orlando, Florida area. With a "huge rolodex" and her new found networking skills, Wendy opened her first referral marketing consulting firm. Wendy’s skills were recognized by Powercore and she was asked to move to Atlanta to open up the market. A short time later, Wendy would give a proposal to the owners of Powercore that would change her life. "They accepted the wrong offer" says Wendy when she talks of the day that she bought Powercore. The early days were tough and in December of 2001, Wendy made the difficult decision to close down Powercore operations outside of Atlanta. Success is about making tough decisions. So what makes Powercore different? Well, too many things to mention, but for a few points consider the unbelievable amount of factual data that Powercore has obtained over the past two decades. Powercore can predict with certainty that at 25 members, a group will begin to have certain problems, such as inappropriate humor. If the leaders don’t deal with it decisively, the group will eventually collapse under the joke of the day syndrome. Another bit of knowledge learned is the ideal mix of attendees. Powercore says that the ideal mix in a networking group is two-thirds men and one-third women. Some of the other features that make Powercore unique are their "I made money deposit slip" and their approach to a networking plan for each member. Powercore suggests that there are twenty-one different types of businesses and that you must have at least ten of these different businesses represented in your circle. You won’t be around Powercore long to learn that there are only three ways to build your business: 1) Advertising, 2) Cold Calling, and 3) Referral Marketing. Powercore is about smart referral marketing. There is so much more to learn about Powercore. The good news for all of us outside the Atlanta area is that Wendy will soon launch "Referral Well – The Natural Source For Business" which contains twenty manuals on how to develop a Powercore like network of your own. Today Wendy is a sought after speaker and trainer, teaching the techniques she’s learned over a lifetime of observation and study. As she puts it "I’m doing other peoples reading for them, but my talent is in how I pull out the hot points". She has a gift for finding the salient points and passing them on in such a way that others can benefit from them. With a huge smile Wendy relates that "Scott Bowen Watt (+PR, Atlanta, GA) said to me recently that since the last time I saw her she’s gotten over $48,000.00 in new business from her Powercore team. My jazz is when people approach me and say; I made it, my kids went to college, my wife got to quit her job, or we went on three vacations last year".
