Network partners of Lincoln Park Chamber of CommerceBy David Carman, Career Transition Editor David's Bio
Whether you’re in transition or just looking for more local business, one of the best places to network is at your local Chamber of Commerce. On Nov. 16, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce www.lincolnparkchamber.com sponsored a networking event to promote mixing and mingling for professionals across the city. In addition to inviting jobseekers, working professionals, and entrepreneurs from the Lincoln Park area, the Chamber reached out to partner with other Chambers and similar organizations throughout Chicago. The list of participating organizations included the following: Business Network International (www.bni.com) Breakfast Network Club (www.breatfastnetworkclub.org) Central Lakeview Merchants Association (www.mylakeview.com) DevCorp North (www.devcorpnorth.org) Edgewater Chamber of Commerce (www.edgewater.org) Lakeview Chamber of Commerce (www.lakeviewchamber.com) Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce (www.lakevieweast.com) LeTip Chicago Power Lunch Network (www.letip.com) Lincoln Park Network (www.lincolnparknetwork.com) National Association of Women Business Owners (www.nawbo.com) Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce (www.ravenswoodchamber.com) West Town Chamber of Commerce (www.westtownchamber.org) Some of these organizations are national or international and you may find them in your area. BNI bills itself as the "world’s largest business referral organization." LeTip is another international organization that offers the opportunity to find qualified business referrals. NAWBO is a national professional organization that "represents the interests of women entrepreneurs in every type of business through networking." When in transition, don’t make the mistake of "sticking to your own kind." Make a point of networking with working professionals as well as entrepreneurs. Working professionals may have valuable job leads or contacts to share, and entrepreneurs may hire you. And don’t forget that networking should be fun. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, socialize, make new friends, and take care of business. Of course, it helps when quality organizations, such as the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce, provide food, drink, and an abundance of top-notch professionals. Contact David at
