Creativity in NetWorkingBy Harvey Mathason, Contributing Writer Harvey's BioFor more creative networking, become childlike Life is about creating yourself. George Bernard Shaw What you are creating is your work, your networking, and your life. The important thing is that you are doing the creating. You are reaping what you sow. But how do you become creative? One way is to become more childlike. (That’s childlike, not childish.) Children are marked by curiosity, imagination, fun, risk-taking, a love of learning, energy, and the ability to adjust to mistakes—all important attributes for effective networking. Go deep inside yourself, act on each of these attributes, and then reflect on whether you’re taking the appropriate action. For example, for curiosity, are you asking more questions? Michael Gelb, in his book, Thinking Like Leonardo da Vinci, suggests going to a quiet place and asking a hundred questions. I have found this to be a very valuable experience. In addition, observe children if you want to become more childlike. Children up to the age of ten have predominantly alpha brainwaves and highly creative brain wave patterns. If you become childlike, it is possible that your brainwaves will have more of an alpha component. Taking action on the items in this list will help you become a more creative, effective networker.
