Columbian LawyersBy SCOTT R. FORCINO Esq., Legal Editor Email article
RSS feed This month I examined an organization that which I have attended networking events/meetings. This entity is the COLUMBIAN LAWYERS based in Westchester County, N.Y., founded in 1982. The parent organization, based in N.Y, N.Y. was founded in 1955. The association exists for members of the legal profession from Italian-American descent. This organization is committed to networking and provides a professional forum between judges, practitioners and law students for the exchange of ideas. It is a “Bar Association” of Italian-American lawyers, a resource for continuing legal education, a source of charitable contribution in the form of legal scholarships and a venue to honor Italian culture and heritage through lecture and study. The community events include theater evenings, wine-tasting, social and Holiday gatherings and of course, great food. Amongst the members are distinguished jurists, local lawyers practicing in diverse areas and District Attorneys, from different administrations. The organization has philanthropic and professional goals/objectives. Many new attorneys appreciate the camaraderie and sense of community found within the membership. There is a distinct feeling of stewardship between the younger and the more “experienced” attorneys. Much learning and training is available from the wealth of lifetime and Courtroom or transactional years of service. Further, another meaningful benefit is the lecture series from notable attorneys and judges. These serve a valuable purpose towards educating the members of the local Bar and provide a comfortable forum for networking and even offering solutions towards settlement of active cases. Overall, the Columbian Lawyers are a traditional and professional organization with deep community roots. Its charitable efforts have greatly enhanced the legal educations of scholarship winners. With the ranks of membership growing please look for the Columbian Lawyers to make an even more powerful impact.
