Networking with the Better Business Bureau

When you think of the Better Business Bureau, what comes to mind? Probably a place for consumers to place their complaints and a place where businesses answer those complaints. You are also likely to think about the benefits of being a Better Business Bureau member such as credibility. But did you know that this is rapidly changing in many aspects? Did you know that the Better Business Bureau is rebranding and some of the initiatives will better serve businesses? It is starting to be evident across the US and Canada, however, there is one Better Business Bureau office that is really striving to make big changes to connect and help the small business. I am so fortunate to be a part of the Golden Gate Better Business Bureau and work with them in connecting businesses.

First, the new program changes membership to accredited business. Accreditation will be based on several factors and a rating system is about to be implemented.

Second, there will be an opportunity to get leads from the Better Business Bureau through the equote system which is now in place.

Third, and my favorite, is the ability to connect with other businesses within the membership. A business directory has been published, a series of TV advertisements with new and renewing members being showcased, and a website that offers business skill training. But that is not all – the Better Business Bureau is making great strides in putting enewsletters out to the membership that will contain member news and events (although this may seem like it should be common place, it is definitely new for my particular office, who has never collected email addresses in the first place).

They are working hard to connect members through various channels. Take a look at the new logo and website – fantastic changes and very timely.

The aftermath of the new look and direction will contain even more chances to connect members, not just locally, but also nationally and internationally. The MasterBizBuilders.com website started by two Better Business Bureau branches (Golden Gate and Edmonton (Northern) Alberta) is now being offered to associations to connect even more people to their membership.

I am truly excited to be a part of the membership and a part of the team that is helping members (now accredited businesses) to connect more with each other!
