It's that time of year to think about what we're grateful for, to review what we've accomplished and to start re-creating a vision for the future. One of the concepts that has always been very powerful for me is "Habit Awareness". Aristotle said, "Excellence is not an act, it is a habit."

The power of a habit is about developing something to become a natural and automatic part of the way you think, act and/or behave.

Because a habit is something that becomes automatic, it is especially important to maintain an awareness of the habits that are influencing your life every day. Because some habits (even ones that were productive habits in the past) need to be replaced, tweaked, or upgraded. The tweaking of one small habit can actually make a major difference in your life over time.

Here are some habits worth considering:

  • Pay attention when you are meeting people and call people by their name.
  • Say thank you as often as possible.
  • Encourage people to fulfill on their dreams.
  • Tell people what you appreciate about them.
  • Congratulate people on their accomplishments (large and small).
  • Introduce yourself to someone you don't know.

Clean out any old, unproductive habits that may be draining your energy by replacing them with some positive, empowering habits.
