Real Estate Connect NYCBy Scott R. Forcino P.C., Attorney at Law, Real Estate Editor This month I attended Inman News’ Real Estate Connect in New York, NY. It was held at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Real Estate Connect NYC is where the leaders in the world of real estate come together with top technology executives to promote change and innovation within the industry. Big name speakers, topic-driven panels and practical workshops combine to provide attendees with the tools and techniques they need to compete in a rapidly changing landscape. The caliber of attendees falls into the higher level of producers as well as top level leadership CIOs, CTOs and CEOs. New York Connect 2008 drew 1,200 to 1,400 real estate agents, top brokers, mortgage professionals, vendors, technology company CEOs, entrepreneurs, press, bloggers, and investors from throughout the nation and around the globe. Some of the sharpest minds in the industry discussed current and conversational topics: real estate market conditions, real estate trends, market forecasts, interactive marketing, social media, Web 2.0, future of MLS, mapping technology, lead generation, blogging, user-generated content, search engine marketing and search engine optimization, online video and paperless technology. The event was very appropriately named “Connect.” There was constant introductions made and exchange of information and ideas amongst attendees. Some of the best networking was done in the hallways between educational sessions. I personally met many practitioners and visionaries from across the nation from all areas of the industry and technology. The first night kicked off with “Beer with Bloggers” and was attended by some of the most well-known and highly rated real estate “bloggers.” This event was hosted by one of the sponsors and was a great way to begin the conference in a low-key and positive environ. Attendees had another networking opportunity to chat one-on-one with the industry leaders of technology and real estate. “Meet the Leaders” was scheduled for two hours and was intended to connected attendees with the best and brightest in the business. Some of the leaders of these nationally known companies present were: Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, Corcoran, Trulia, Zillow, Prudential Douglas Elliman, Coldwell Banker, craigslist.org, Google and Yahoo Real Estate. There also was cocktail party held in the New York Times Building overlooking Times Square. It was a great atmosphere to meet and re-connect with exhibitors and hundreds of attendees alike. An open bar and a fantastic view made for an important networking event. The spirit of the event is always to bring real estate people together to learn from each other and connect with each other. Many important relations are made or fostered. The event was very productive to me personally. Real Connect is considered to be “the event” for the real industry practitioners and futurists. There is much speculation and anticipation for the future of real estate and the people working it and living it. For those making their career within the real estate industry as a practitioner or a vendor there is no better place to refine one’s networking skills and meet the people who know the people you ought to know, Real Estate Connect is the place to be.
