Introducing the BaronBy Victor Cattermole, Asia Pacific Bureau ChiefVictor's Bio Email article RSS feed
Many of us may never have the opportunity to share the presence of a Baron. I am fortunate enough to have known Baron Allan Tsang for some time and he blessed me with some of his time so I could find out what made Baron Allan Tsang so successful. To me he is just Allan but for those that don’t know him the first impressions of this stately gentleman are spot on. When he walks in the room his 6 foot plus stature for an Asian man first of all grabs your attention. Always immaculate in his dress and humble and incredibly polite in his nature. It doesn’t take long to forget the status of the gentleman and feel like you are in the presence of a long time friend.
I have known Allan for some time and have had the honour of travelling into China and Macau with him, as well as attending several business meetings and Government official events. Allan’s move to success started in the early 1990’s when he spearheaded mobile POS technology into the China market. This business went on to become a multi billion dollar industry as China adopted point of sale electronic payment systems. Allan became so well recognized in the China market he was subject to many prominent articles and quoted in publications as one of the leading China entrepreneurs. Allan’s family for many years have been active and successful in property development in Macau. Allan’s and his father still maintain high interest in Macau property with ownership in two large shopping malls, land and accommodation. A considerable amount of Allan's time now though is spent on property development across the border from Macau in the Zhongshan district where Allan makes light of having over US$150 billion of development underway. Clearly this sort of business can’t be conducted without a key network of people to call on and when I have tested Allan on supply of anything he doesn’t hesitate to pull out the blackberry and call a contact who can help. Amazingly the list of contacts in Allan's network on his blackberry ranges from the most basic service provider who uses the bus to get around, right through to the highest level of Government, not only in China but in many countries around the world. A look over the Bio of Baron Allan Tsang shows involvement in companies involved in communications in China, oil in Africa and Asia, Real Estate in China, rubbish recycling in China and Gold, Silica and solar energy in USA, Canada and China with American Alliance Financial and Funding Group LLC, where he holds the position of Vice President. In addition to the business ventures Allan is heavily involved in charity work. In the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta (OSJ) he holds the status of H.E Baron Allan Tsang and rank of Grand Cross of Saint John, also the position of Grand Prior of Hong Kong and China and Deputy Grand Prior of the Orient. In addition, he holds position as Vice President in the Radient OSJ Charity Fund, (a charity for visually impaired children in China), The OSJ Charity Fund for the Elderly, the Hong Kong China OSJ Aids Foundation. The list of charities continues... Time with Barron Allan Tsang teaches me about the importance of networks in order to make things happen. The importance of meeting people at their level and not at mine. The importance of staying feet on the ground because the numbers on a deal (whether it be one hundred thousand dollars or one hundred billion dollars) don’t really matter when it comes to the mechanics of what makes a deal work. Finally to stay humble and serve fellow man and community in order to achieve true wealth.
