This month’s article is all about keeping in the right frame of mind for success and what that means beyond positive affirmations, being around other successful leaders and managing your own “self-talk”. In fact, there are some very specific things that I have found the majority of successful networkers do on a routine basis to keep their mindset positive, creative and open for opportunity.  A good friend, great leader, attorney (we won’t hold that against him) and successful networker, recently shared these thoughts with me and with his permission, I forward them to you:

  1. Learn all that you can while you can.
Stay Hungry: for information on product, company, business plans, compensation...this knowledge about your company will build your belief system; and when your belief system is rooted deep the strong winds will not topple you over....
  2. Study your industry. Certainly it is not just information provided by your particular company that is useful. Here are some suggestions: take a look at
www.paulzanepilzer.com - two books I would highly recommend for your understanding of the HUGE dynamic industry we are in - the opportunity in WELLNESS cannot be over-emphasized.

From the website: The New Wellness Revolution
In 2002, The Wellness Revolution defined an industry and outlined an emerging $200 billion industry. Today, wellness has grown to $500 billion and it's still just getting started, offering even greater entrepreneurial opportunities. Revised and Expanded for 2007 with 50% new material.

Another great book by Pilzer: The Next Millionaires
Explains how the internet has barely gotten started and how you can capitalize on it. Also explains why home-based business entrepreneurs will be among the richest in our new economy and how you can find the greatest economic potential in the "technology gap."

  1. Most of all, learn how to become a better you. We all have room for improvement; let there be a continuing hunger for Personal Growth. There's an endless amount of resources to help us in this way! If you're new to this, start with going to websites like www.jimrohn.com. Also look for books by John C. Maxwell and Zig Ziglar, just to mention a few.
  2. Who you are is who you attract. Networking is all about relationships, people are attracted to who you are as a person more than the business opportunity or the product. Can they trust you in your actions and your words? Do you listen to them? Do you have integrity to follow through with promises? Can they feel comfortable referring their family and friends to you? If not, you know who needs improvement; you don't need to look too far!
  3. Find your eagle wings and eagle vision. Networking is not always easy ...expect some hard times, but keep perspective...
  4. Take personal responsibility. Having a good leader will not lead to your success! Just as in our health...we need to take personal responsibility for our own well being. So it is with reaching our goals; you will need to put in your own hard efforts to reach the goals you desire. Don't expect your upline leaders to baby-sit you to the top. Work on yourself to get the negatives out of the way so that you can become an inspiration to others.
  5. Never, ever quit! You are guaranteed to miss the mark if you quit; so don't even make that an option, no matter what. Run the race with perseverance!
  6. Learn to praise, no matter what the circumstances. Will every prospecting situation be joyful? No. Will every promising new associate be your next business builder or best life experience story? Absolutely not. Let your words be praise to others. Look for accomplishments in your team and call them your Success Team.
  7. Don't reinvent the wheel; but find a way for it to turn for you in the right direction. There is no perfect way to get where you are going. We are all unique in our own ways and we need to adapt the information we have to fit who we are and run with it. Always be open to new ideas and expect change, even in your priorities. Even if a plan works for you for a time; your plan will likely need to change eventually. "Think outside the box."
  8. Get out of your comfort zone and stretch. DO something you have never done before, go where you have never gone before. There might be opportunities there that you would find no other way. When trying the new thing, always look with anticipation, not in fear. As Jim Rohn would say, "Turn your frustrations into fascinations!" Above all, Enjoy life and show it with enthusiasm. Lack of enthusiasm is dullness and mediocrity. Enthusiasm can help you live an energized life that is filled with possibilities that will be contagious! Others will be attracted to your leadership and you'll be surprised at your own accomplishments and that of your team.
