This month was a chance for me to go on tour and so I took off on a 17 hour journey back to my home town in Christchurch, New Zealand. I caught up with a long time friend and top sales guy Martin Russell. Martin is the founder of Sales Solutions Ltd and has spent a lifetime in the sales arena. In that time he has achieved a great deal of success in a very wide range of products and services. Whether building businesses of his own (4), developing successful franchise operations (2), or rocketing up the success ladder within a larger corporate operation (3), he has clearly demonstrated his ability to turn sales success into business success. In this time, some of his achievements include:
These skills don’t come by accident, but through hard work, and a very strong understanding of the sales process. Martin’s greatest successes have been in the most difficult areas of sales – the intangibles. It is not everybody who can sell a concept, particularly in the difficult Business To Business sector. This sector is a minefield of difficulties for the uninitiated, but can be richly rewarding when just a few skills are mastered. Of note is the Knowledge Gym business and what that franchise achieved. A small sample of the achievement includes bringing known speakers such as Michael Gerber, Simon Reynolds of Australia’s Dragons Den and Brian Tracy to New Zealand. After selling his franchise for “The Knowledge Gym”, which he grew from 11 members to more than 230, (more than Auckland & Wellington combined!), Martin started Sales Solutions Ltd, a sales training organisation designed to help businesses present their product or service to the marketplace in order to improve their conversion ratios and turn prospects into sales. In a very short time he has an impressive client list of more than 50 businesses, from small operators to massive multi-nationals. Martin is always happy to offer some free advice when it comes to sales and marketing strategies. The number one advice from him though is sales result from developed and maintained relationships. Expect to see more of Martin Russell on the global circuit assisting more of us to develop our networks.
