An Anthology

What is an anthology? It is a collection of selected literary pieces or passages or works of art or music. The key word is “selected” or choosing the best of the best. So how does the word “anthology” relate to networking? It means dealing with the best of the best.It means finding new networking ways and releasing ones that don’t seem to be working any more...

I will be discussing an anthology of books and an anthology of quotations.

Brief Anthology of Books

  1. Networking Smart, Wayne Baker
  2. Network or Perish. Learn the secrets of master networkers: Robyn Henderson, Belinda Yabsely, Neen James, Kim Mcguinness, Jenninfer Jefferies, Lee-Anne Carson, Sue Henry, Sandy Forster
  3. Networking Magic, Rick Freshman and Jill Lubin
  4. Masters of Networking. Building Relationships For Your Pocketbook and Soul, Ivan R. Misner Ph.D. and Don Morgan M.A.
  5. Networking for Your Success, Ron Sukenick

I say brief anthology of books because five books are barely scratching the surface for an anthology. It is up to you to expand the anthology in such categories as communication, persuasion, sales, marketing , running a business and so forth. Again, the key word is “select.’ You want the best of the best books. I recommend that you ask for recommendations for your books.

The second anthology I would like to discuss is an anthology of quotes. Such an anthology will inspire you and help shape what you will become.

A few years ago I decided to develop an anthology of my 100 Favorite Quotes. This list has given me great pleasure as well as something to fall back on when I needed a quote. I recommend compiling your personal list of 100 quotes. If this seems too labor intensive, make one of 25. Here are some quotes from my list:

“A man’s mind once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.”
Oliver Wendell Homes

“Business begins with an idea and as never before, its growth, stability, and ultimate success depend upon innovation and continuing flow of imaginative thought".
Jerry Hershberg

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the word. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead.

“The nature of an idea is to be communicated, written, spoken, done. The idea craves light, likes crowds, thrives on cross-breeding; grows better for having been stepped on.
Ursula K. Gurin

“Every time act, you add strength to the motivating idea behind what you have done."
Dr. George Weinberg
