How to Tweet on TwitterYou’ve probably been hearing a lot of buzz about Twitter lately (Chris Kauza just recently covered it in his recent TNNW article as well), which is a new form of social networking that has just reached the tipping point. Internet marketers are jumping all over it, and more and more people are becoming Twitter addicts. Twittering is micro-blogging. Instead of writing several paragraphs like you would in a blog, you simply share a short sentence, your “tweet”, telling people what you are doing at that moment. Your tweets can be no longer than 140 characters long. Who reads your tweets? Your “Followers” do. People can choose to follow you, and you can choose to follow the people you want to follow. I like Guy Kawasaki, so I did a quick search to see if he was using Twitter. I was surprised to find that he did have a Twitter account. I clicked the “follow” button on his Twitter page so that I could watch his daily comments. Since I am now a follower, his posts show up on my Twitter page. A few minutes later, I received an email from Twitter, notifying me that Guy Kawasaki was now following me! How thrilling… to have someone like Guy Kawasaki follow me! However, Guy is already following over 9,800 people, with about the same number of people following him. So chances are slim that he would ever see one of my posts. Still, we are now linked, and whenever I post what I’m doing, my post will show up his page, as well as on the Twitter pages of my followers. What I write could potentially attract someone somewhere, to click my profile, where they in turn can go to my website or blog. It’s just another way to network. So go check out Twitter, and start a free account. You are also welcome to come see what I’m Twittering about at the moment.
