Featured Columnist - The Boom in Boomer Networking

MS.
ELAINE S. INGIS – Baby Boomer extraordinaire, wife, mom, widow, grandma,
entrepreneur, and (some might say) "serial dater" (although she’d prefer
to say “collector of interesting people”).
Currently, Ms. Ingis finds herself acting as a Boomer Coach for her many
new and old friends. She believes that the true secret of benefiting
from life's lessons is in developing an understanding of life's
simplicity. Humor and Simplicity – Simplicity and Humor – thaaaaat’s
all folks! She is using this philosophy to build an online business
and social community of Boomers which focuses on the interests, culture
and needs of Baby Boomers who have reached 60 years + in age. For those
Boomers who have reached the new “40” and are using the internet . . .
you are obviously doing something very right.
After working for over 20 years as Director of Administration for a New
York law firm, Ms. Ingis decided that it had become time for her to
start building her own professional achievements. This led her to
establish The Ingis Group, a consulting firm specializing in the
identification of strategic challenges and the implementation of
solutions for traditional service businesses, including legal and
accounting firms and a variety of internet ventures. She would
frequently quote her dad, who had always said, “It is better to own
your own peanut stand than to work for someone.” Since she had met
many a “nut” during the course of her travels, it seemed appropriate to
focus her efforts in that direction.
As a full-time working mother, Ms. Ingis ran a business, and attended
school and sporting events...all simultaneously. She credits this
multi-tasking ability to networking, community support and being able to
keep her feet planted firmly in mid-air (which would seem to be a
definite violation of the Fundamental Laws of Physics, but which is
apparently not impossible).
With the safety net and loving support of her husband, Bob, she was able
to start her own consulting firm and follow her dreams...some more
successful than others...but with each attempt contributing to a
treasure trove of wonderful life lessons.
She then found herself abruptly confronted with a life-altering
situation which forced her to experience, first-hand, traumatic personal
transition, feelings of isolation, serious introspection and other,
very human challenges...challenges that are part of the journey
that is life. As triumph is so often born of tragedy, facing these
challenges brought her the gifts of greater compassion, resiliency and
the discovery of vast reserves of emotional strength.
SrMeetUp
offers specifically tailored advice and strategies, peer interaction,
friendship, community service, employment opportunities, not-for-profit
special events and much needed fun to reduce stress,
build social and professional partnerships and to increase life’s
enjoyments.
Ms. Ingis’ aim in creating SrMeetUp is to rekindle
thoughts of the jitter bug, wide-winged Chevys, The Righteous Brothers,
drive-ins and, most importantly, the excitement of endless
possibilities.
