Linking Intention to Planning & Goal Setting

Now begin the planning process. Goals develop naturally from purpose and intention. For example, if your purpose is to bring laughter and joy into peoples’ lives, your intention may be to start a business where enjoyment and laughter is a part of your business plan.

To help you in your goal setting, consider the following:

  • Scan the horizon. What is going on around you?
  • Study the work of futurists. How can you meet the emerging needs of future generations? It has been said that in the next ten years, new career paths will be spawned that are currently beyond the comprehension of the everyday person. What could they be?
  • Where is the work that needs doing?
  • What are the unmet needs of those around you?
  • How is change creating new opportunities while current or previous opportunities are fading away?
  • Develop group discussions around areas where you need input from others.
  • Scan books, management reports, magazines and trade papers.
  • Speak with opinion leaders in the community.
  • What time frames or windows of opportunity are you facing?
  • Who and what resources that would help you?
  • What are the new qualifications that you need to possess? (Consider what William Bridges says in his book Jobshift “…new qualifications exist inside of us rather then on our resumes.”)

Questions to Guide Self-Reflection

  1. What goals need to be put into place in order to meet your intentions?
  2. How does your goal align to your vision?
  3. Are you compromising yourself at all or sacrificing other parts of your life to accomplish your goal?
  4. What is the impact of the goals on you and others?
  5. Who will need to be involved?
  6. How will you go about meeting and developing relationships to help you achieve success?
  7. What actions steps do you need to take?
  8. Are you considering what you really want at this point in your life?

Leadership With Purpose - As a leader, your ability to project intention and vision helps team members in their ability to be creative and develop an organizational presence. With this shared focus, people around you are better able to align with each other and more effortlessly accomplish objectives.

In their much-referenced book Leaders: The Strategy for Taking Charge, Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus promote the importance of vision in leaders. They say, “By focusing attention on a vision, the leader operates on the emotional and spiritual resources of people around them.” Take this one step further. Others who possess a passion and direction for their life inspire individuals and the work they are led to perform. People are influenced by those who have a passion for life, who live with purpose and intention, and who possess a freedom not merely to see possibilities, but who commit and take positive action in their life.

Now, get ready, set, aim and record your mission, goals, and beliefs as it pertains to global partnering. Ron sets the tone by sharing his mission, intentions, and beliefs.

MISSION

The mission of a Global Partner is to promote the exchange of business and personal opportunities among professional, quality conscious people.

Example: I will conduct my business and life with integrity, and in a manner consistent with the highest quality standards of all Global Partners around the world.

INTENTIONS

To be one of the most productive, innovative and committed Global Partners in my community as measured by participation and results.

To build my NetBeing system on traditions of integrity, reliability and commitment.

GOALS

To obtain feedback from my network on an ongoing basis, since meeting and exceeding my partner’s expectations is the foundation of my NetBeing commitment.

To expand my NetBeing system to attain a significant presence in the community in which I live and work.

To evaluate my achievements using traditional and innovative measurements.

BELIEFS

To fulfill my NetBeing mission and achieve my goals, I will build my networking future on the following:

  • I believe ... that NetBeing associates are my first priority and that one hundred percent participation is the key to my success. For my system to succeed, I recognize that the more I know about others, the more likely I can help them. Meeting and exceeding the expectations of my network is a prerequisite for facilitating network interaction.
  • I believe ... that the people in my network make the difference. Because my success depends on the quality of people coming into my system, personal selection is a critical quality decision. To attract and retain the best people, I will continue to innovate and create an environment that will support successful business and personal interaction. I will offer informative and challenging discussions, and personal growth opportunities.
  • I believe ... in the Givers Gain Philosophy of doing business. The more business I can generate for others, the greater success I will have in reaching my goals. My work will be predicated on the concept of "what goes around, comes around." If I freely give to others, I will receive business freely as well.
  • I believe ... that every colleague has a stake in my success or failure-we are partners in a NetBeing system. As in any partnership, there must be trust and open communication throughout my system.
  • I believe ... that my NetBeing system is for business people who mean business. I realize that we're linked together by common goals and we are encouraged to share ideas, information, and resources. It has been proven time and time again that by helping others get to where they are going, we can truly experience the real meaning of success.
  • I believe ... that NetBeing as a way of life, will change my whole way of doing business. As a technique, it will introduce me to knowledgeable allies I didn't know I had. As a process, it knows no limits and neither will I if I use it to its fullest potential.
  • I believe ... that innovation is critical to achieving quality results. Successful NetBeing systems will be those that anticipate and quickly adapt to change. I am determined to devote resources to the development of new ideas that will provide better methods for networking interaction. When innovative proposals show potential, I will be committed to acting on them promptly.
  • I believe ... that leadership is the key responsibility of those who want to build a successful NetBeing system. I believe that superior organizational performance is achieved when a spirit of teamwork, enthusiasm and commitment exists. I will be accountable for achieving results and for fostering a climate that encourages people to give their best effort.
  • I believe ... that integrity and fair dealing must be at the heart of every business decision I make. A tradition of, and reputation for, ethical behavior is of paramount importance to my NetBeing system family of associates. I will treat others who I meet for the first time with fairness and good faith, and I expect of myself and others honesty, integrity, and compliance with values and ethics of the highest standing.
  • I believe ... in serving the community; devoted to the common good, continuing a tradition of providing information, support and services that promote health, education and quality of life.
  • I believe ... in the entrepreneurial spirit. I will foster this spirit among others because innovation, self-expression and prudent risk taking will provide me with a competitive advantage, and will provide my NetBeing system with what it takes to be the best we can be.
